Becoming a Registered Nurse
There are three ways to become a registered nurse. You can obtain your BSN (bachelor's of science degree in nursing), an associate's degree in nursing, or by obtaining a diploma in nursing. A nursing bachelor's degree will take four years to complete, an associate's degree about two to three years, and a nursing diploma three years.
Other Online Nursing Courses
Some students may want to pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse, or LPN. These nurses enter programs which last approximately one year. LPNs care for people who are injured, sick, or convalescent, and are directed by registered nurses or doctors. Some duties of a LPN encompass taking vital signs, dressing wounds, provide bedside care, prepare meals and perform other assigned tasks.
A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) must be licensed to practice by completing necessary coursework and passing an exam. Since most LVNs are often required to work around-the-clock while caring for their patients, having a very caring and understanding heart is essential for these positions.
